Intel Calls Out Pearl Abyss Over Missing Arc GPU Support in Crimson Desert
Intel is "hugely disappointed" that Pearl Abyss blocked Arc graphics cards at launch despite years of offered help.
If you were hoping to explore the massive open world of Pywel using an Intel Arc graphics card, you are completely out of luck, and Intel is not happy about it. Following the launch of Crimson Desert, it was quickly discovered that the game completely blocks Intel GPUs from running the title. Now, Intel has issued a public statement, and they are pointing the finger directly at developer Pearl Abyss.
In a recent statement (via VideoCardz), an Intel representative expressed deep frustration over the situation, claiming that the hardware manufacturer offered years of dedicated support to the studio that was ultimately ignored.
“Hugely Disappointed”
Currently, the official Crimson Desert FAQ flat-out states that the game “does not support Intel Arc graphics cards” and bluntly advises players who bought the game expecting compatibility to seek a refund from steam. There is no mention of a future patch, a delay, or any ongoing optimization work.
In response, Intel made it clear that prior to this controversy, they tried everything behind the scenes to prevent this exact scenario.
“We’re aware that Crimson Desert currently doesn’t launch on systems with Intel GPUs and we’re hugely disappointed that players using Intel graphics hardware can’t jump into the world of Pywel at launch,” the Intel representative stated.
“Over the past several years, we’ve reached out to Pearl Abyss many times to help test, validate, and optimize support for Intel graphics, providing early hardware, drivers, and engineering resources across multiple generations, including Alchemist, Battlemage, Meteor Lake, and Lunar Lake.”
A PR Nightmare for Pearl Abyss?
What makes this situation highly unusual in the PC gaming space is how cleanly Intel is washing its hands of the launch disaster. Hardware vendors routinely work with game studios prior to a major release, and games often launch with known bugs or limited support for certain setups. Outright blocking an entire ecosystem of modern graphics cards is incredibly rare.

Intel’s statement concluded by placing the responsibility squarely on the developers: “We remain ready to assist Pearl Abyss however we can. For details on the choice not to enable Intel support at launch, please reach out directly to Pearl Abyss.”
For now, if you are running an Intel Arc discrete GPU or playing on a laptop powered by Intel’s latest integrated graphics, your only option is to request a refund. Pearl Abyss has yet to issue a counter-statement explaining why the hardware was fully locked out of the launch build.
