Pokémon Pokopia Time Travel Guide: Penalties & Benefits Explained
Animal Crossing veterans are terrified to touch their system clocks, but Game Freak handles time manipulation very differently. Here is how to exploit the clock to your advantage.
- UPDATE: While early reports suggest that basic time travel (skipping 1-2 hours) has no immediate penalty, players are starting to report "Daily Lockouts" when jumping more than 24 hours. We recommend caution to protect your save file.
Because Pokémon Pokopia is a real-time life simulator, it didn’t take long for players to ask the ultimate question: Can I time travel to skip these building timers?
If you are coming from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you are probably terrified to touch your system clock out of fear that your crops will rot, your town will fill with weeds, and your favorite residents will move away.
However, we have great news: There are zero penalties for time traveling in Pokémon Pokopia.
The Consequences of Time Traveling (Mythbusted)
Unlike other life sims, Game Freak did not include any punishment mechanics for adjusting your console’s clock.
- No Rotted Crops: If you time travel forward, your planted crops will actually instantly mature and be ready for harvest.
- No Abandoned Towns: Your Pokémon residents will not leave, and weeds will not suddenly take over your town.
- No Daily Lockouts: Everything will continue as normal, regardless of how many times you shift the clock back and forth.
How to Time Travel on the Switch 2
Since there is no in-game menu for this, you have to manipulate the console itself. Here is exactly how to do it:
- Completely save and close your Pokémon Pokopia game.
- Open your Switch 2 System Settings (the gear icon).
- Scroll to the bottom and select System, then Date and Time.
- Toggle “Synchronize Clock via Internet” to the OFF position.
- Change the date and time to whenever you want, and reboot the game!
The Biggest Benefit: Accessing Events Early
Aside from instantly skipping the real-world wait times for massive construction projects like the Pokémon Center, players have discovered a massive exploit: You can play limited-time events before they officially launch.
The first official event, “More Spores for Hoppip,” is not supposed to begin until March 9, 2026. However, the event data is already in the game files.
By time traveling forward to any date between March 9 and March 24, you can instantly trigger the event right now. This allows you to collect special cotton spores and befriend event-exclusive Pokémon like Hoppip, Skiploom, and Jumpluff days before anyone else.
(Jake’s Pro-Tip: To trigger the Hoppip event early, you must have already finished rebuilding the Pokémon Center in your town, and the event will not spawn if you are on the multiplayer Cloud Islands!)
