Marathon’s Day One Economy is Already Breaking
Players are completely bypassing the premium currency store on day one. Will Bungie bring down the ban hammer or issue server rollbacks?
Marathon has barely been out for 24 hours, and the community has already found a way to break the game’s economy. While many players are stuck trying to fix frustrating network issues, a growing number of Deluxe Edition owners are abusing a massive Marathon infinite silk exploit to completely max out their reward passes in record time.
Here is everything you need to know about the exploit, how it is ruining the game’s early economy, and whether Bungie is preparing to issue bans.
What is the Marathon Infinite Silk Exploit?
Silk is Marathon’s premium currency, used to purchase cosmetics and progress through the seasonal reward pass. However, players quickly discovered a loophole specifically tied to the Deluxe Edition bonuses.
By repeating a specific set of in-game actions (which Raidenza will not detail here to protect the integrity of the game), the system continually rewards the player with the “first-time” Silk drop over and over again. This Marathon infinite silk exploit allows players to generate thousands of premium currency points in just a few hours.
Will Bungie Ban Players for the Exploit?
Historically, Bungie’s stance on exploits has been clear: If the bug is the developer’s fault, players usually are not banned. In Destiny 2, Bungie famously allowed players to keep loot gained from a “loot cave” or broken weapon crafting system, eventually just patching the game and letting players keep the rewards.
However, because the Marathon infinite silk exploit directly impacts the game’s microtransactions and real-world revenue, Bungie may take a much harsher stance. The studio recently outlined their strict new security and anti-cheat features, and players on Reddit and X are already warning others that abusing this specific bug could lead to a permanent account ban or an inventory rollback.
When Will It Be Patched?
Expect an emergency hotfix from Bungie within the next 24 hours. If the developer cannot deploy a patch immediately, they will likely disable the Deluxe Edition rewards entirely until the issue is resolved.
Raidenza has reached out to Bungie for official comment regarding the exploit and potential account bans. We will update this article if we receive a response.
